A second chance

I was walking with one of the girls around my age on the team that we currently have here. This is her first time in Haiti. She was just telling me how amazed she is at Kids Alive Haiti and what an oasis our compound is in the midst of chaos and poverty that lives right outside our gates. Within our gates kids can be kids. They can play, learn, grow, rest, develop faith and love. This place truly is an atmosphere where kids don't have the worries of survival that most kids in Haiti have. These kids are provided for and cared for.

This wasn't the case for any of our kids before they came to us here at Kids Alive. Before their lives here they battled with violence, death, drugs and alcohol, abuse and fear. To see kids that have lived in some of the most dangerous places, fending for their lives in whatever way they knew how to now be swinging on swings with friends warms my heart. To know that these kids have lived through more than any kid should ever have to, and they now are able to just focus on education, family and the Lord is such an amazing gift.

There are very few circumstances in life where we get a real second chance, a chance to start over. Thats what God has given these kids at Kids Alive. A chance for growth, a chance for love and a chance to know Him. A chance to live a Godly life where we are all given a second chance that we did not deserve.

I am grateful for the second chance that God gave me, and continues to give me every day as I make mistakes. This second chance for these kiddos truly saved their lives. To see kids who were once victims, who once resorted to violence, who once felt unloved, who once had a slim chance of survival- to be able to just be kids and have a second chance at life, now that is what Kids Alive Haiti is all about. And by the grace of God,  more lives will be saved and will come to realize the gift that the Lord gave them- and they too will live for Him.
